The four members of Skull Squadron under fast burn over the planet Saturn.

Many of you already know my love of the Macross franchise (just click HERE if you want to know more). With this image I wanted to do an homage to the opening scene of the Macross: Do You Remember Love? film from 1984, which finds our heroes (already nearing Saturn on their voyage back to Earth) sortieing to fight the enemy.

This drawing was originally sketched out and scanned, and all linework and coloring is completely digital. Although I *can* draw highly detailed and accurate renditions of the VF-1 Valkyrie seen here, I opted for the more simple interpretation as seen in the film. The shading style is my best attempt to replicate that from the film, but more modern effects are in place, too (the thrust, Saturn and its rings, the slight glow).
